Coquille | Bag | Prototype | Submission | Prix Émile Hermès | 2008

The zip holds a special significance for Hermes, because it was Emile Hermes who originally introduced the zip in handbags. I wanted to place the function of the zip within a new, surprising environment. My idea was to create an easy-to-clean, small travel bag from a single piece of leather held together by one zip. The difficult thing with most bags is to access the inside for cleaning. But with the Coquille, all you have to do is open the zip and the bag is suddenly nothing more than a flat piece of leather. The lining consists of rubberised, low-maintenance fabric. It is also padded to provide protection for fragile implements.
